Okay so two really kinda neat things that I learned about today in Art and Culture: Albrect Durer was an engraver/painter/writer back in the…I think 16th century…anyway. He was the first guy to ever write AND illustrate his own book, which I think is pretty neat, because I kinda think I want to do that a little. It’s always rad to know from where the things you enjoy originate. AND NUMBER TWO: OH MY GOD. I found my new favorite person from the Netherlands ever. His name was Hieronymous Bosch, and he was a freaky lil dude. He had this altarpiece that was called the Garden of Earthly Delights that was just…messed the hell up. Closed, that’s the first picture, and the bottom one is it open. But the point isn’t the fact that Hell is terrifying and weird in his brain, with his ear daggers and musical lynchings…the point is that THERE IS A FREAKIN UNICORN AND A DRAGON IN THE CREATION PANEL. THAT. THAT IS THE POINT. And then there’s the other picture that I had to keep from cracking up at because just…just look at it. That’s Christ receiving the crown of thorns..and he is just so stoked about it. Like what the hell, Bosch?! I’m…I’m confuse. Such a happy thing, a crown of thorns. HOW HIGH WERE YOU AND CAN YOU COME BACK TO LIFE AND BE MY BEST FRIEND?!
